Primary and secondary school’s reading teaching is limited to after-school reading tasks and reading comprehension exercises. The development of new media and social reading makes people start thinking about the way of reading teaching. It becomes a new research perspective that teachers how to make use of the new media environment to guide students to do social reading.Firstly, there was a literature review over the theoretical research on primary and secondary school students’ reading, social reading based on new media and students’ online learning community. Secondly, on the basis of putting forward the integration concept of new media technology and social reading, this research organized the existing social reading activities into a handbook. Thirdly, a survey was conducted to find out the pilot school’s present reading situation and technical environment with field investigation and pre-questionnaire. By analyzing the results of the survey, a scheme was designed for school social reading under the new media environment. Then, it was implemented in the pilot school to do a practice research. Lastly, the study objects were asked to do the post-questionnaire and interview after the practice, and the questionnaire data and the interview contents were analyzed from three aspects:the new technology, social nature and evaluation. The analysis pointed out the advantages and disadvantages of the scheme and also put up with some advice on improvement.The research has shown that school social reading under the new media environment is feasible, and it plays a positive role in reading teaching from the angles of the new media technology, social communication and teaching evaluation. Hopefully, this study will have great reference significance for the design of social reading activity in primary and secondary school.
