The research object of this subject is the relationship between the level of writing and the metaphorical competence of junior middle school students in.Writing is a comprehensive language output skill, is the priority in the teaching of Chinese writing course.The focus of this paper is to enhance the writing level from the ability of metaphor.The purpose of this paper is to investigate the situation of the metaphorical competence of the middle school students, analyze the correlation between metaphorical competence and Chinese writing level,and it can make people realize the importance of improving the Chinese writing proficiency from the ability of metaphor. Specific research questions are: (1)How is the general situation of the metaphorical competence of the middle school students? (2) Is there a certain correlation between learners’ metaphorical competence and Chinese writing level? (3)if so,how the correlation between metaphorical competence and Chinese writing level? There are some students from the NO.l high school of Pixian, the NO.2 high school of Pixian、the NO.3 high school of Pixian and the high school of Pengzhou taking part in the test.The instruments include the compositions of these students and the Metaphoric Competence Test which was adopted from Littlemore’s Metaphoric Competence Test. The former is used to measure the students’s writing proficiency and later is used to test the students’ metaphoric competence,the data were dealed with by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 19.0).According to the obtained data statistics and analysis, the mainly findings are as follows: (1) the majority of the subjects’s ability in finding the meaning in metaphor is relatively higher than the fluency of metaphor interpretation and originality of metaphor production; (2) the test scores of students’metaphoric competence shows a low level, which means the students’metaphoric competence is not high;(3)The writing level of our primary middle school students is not very ideal,there are significant differences between the high level and the low level;(4)The students’metaphoric competence and their writing proficiency are positively correlated to each other,which means that the learners’ writing proficiency has close relation with metaphoric competence,it also provides theoretical guarantees in bringing the metaphorical competence into teaching practice.This paper confirms the importance of metaphor ability in Chinese writing course from the empirical aspect, the empirical part findings have certain enlightenment for the middle school Chinese writing teaching and learning:middle school Chinese teachers should enrich the students’ metaphor knowledge in writing teaching, cultivating the sense of metaphor and metaphorical competence of students; students should also consciously metaphor knowledge applied to practical learning, so as to improve the individual Chinese writing level. Based on these analysis, I proposed my views and suggestions of metaphorical competence of Chinese writing course of middle school students in China, and I hope we can pay more attention on the training and development of their metaphorical competence, and we can take some practical measures to improve the ability of the students.
