| Lizheng is an excellent educationalist and a president in modern China. He devoted much of his effort to educational reform and progress in China. And Li also participated in many major educational activities in modern China. His educational thought has an important place in the history of education in modern China.Lizheng was the very person who acted the role of president of the Beijing Normal University longest in modern China. He had grown the scale, improved the system of the school, and expanded the social impact of the Beijing Normal University together with all the teachers and students. Lizheng’s idea of managing school, such as ’Honest, Sincere, Sparing, Concrete’, and ’both Academic Research and Profession Training’, still has certain reference significance for today’s college management especially for Normal Universities’ development. Li had worked in the Extensional Education department of Central University District., and served as the director in Social Education department of the Ministry of Education of Nanjing Republic Government. What’s more, he had administered Beijing Normal University for a long time. He had gone through various changes of modern Chinese education, and put forward a number of special claims. Therefore Li was the witness and participant of the development of education in modern China. Especially at the very moment when the independent status of higher normal education system would be canceled, Li cried for the sake of the higher normal education system’s independence. During the Anti-Japanese War, Li led the school to move the northwest of China and established the Norwest normal college cultivating a series of teachers.Lizheng’s educational thought resulted from his educational activities and was developed and improved constantly in practice. He had his own views in many aspects such as mass education, normal education, social education, national education, physical education, which together formed his educational thought. Lizheng thought much of the education’s personal and national function, and emphasized the practicality of education, advocated the education’s combination with society. He highly promoted mass education, advocating the establishment of a comprehensive system of mass education administrative organization. At the same time, he held the view that the teachers’character, professionalism, ethics played an important role in students’ development. So he was very focused on the professional training as the main task of the teacher education. Based on this, he encouraged the students to have the goal of being an educationalist. Besides, in consideration of the actual situation in China he also advocated the use of the advantages of teacher education in handling mass education so that the two complements could suit each other. Lizheng’s educational thought had being implemented more or less in his activities and played an important role in the history of education in the modern China. |
