New Curriculum Standards for senior high school require that intercultural communicative awareness of the students should be cultivated. It also puts forward the levels that the senior high school students should reach. In the thesis we discuss about the level of intercultural communication awareness of the senior high school students have achieved, we also discuss about the main factors that influence the students’ mastery of English knowledge about culture. The thesis analyzes the test results of 140 senior 1 and 2 high school students to know about their intercultural communicative awareness levels. The findings are that the students have mastered some intercultural knowledge, but most of the students have not yet reached the standards requirements of the new curriculum, slightly lower than its requirements, which are between level 2 and 5. As a supplementation to the results of test papers, 20 teachers and 30 students are interviewed. The purpose of students’ interview is to know the difficulty of the test,the reasons of choosing wrong answers, their ideas of cross-cultural communication awareness, ways to get cross-cultural knowledge. The purpose of teachers’ interview is to know teachers’ level of cross-cultural knowledge, assess students’ cross-cultural knowledge level, and how to teach cross-cultural knowledge. The thesis has proved that cultural teaching is an indispensable part of English teaching. What I have learned from the interview is the reasons why students cannot choose the right answer, they are: students lack a strong cross-cultural knowledge, and teachers cannot add adequate cultural knowledge and so on.The significance of the research is to investigate the intercultural communication levels of the senior high school students, to reveal the main factors that affect the students to master the intercultural knowledge and to know the teachers how to teach intercultural knowledge in the class. To cultivate intercultural communication awareness of the senior high school students, the thesis puts forward many suggestions and strategies. They are: ① To improve teachers’ own level of cross-cultural knowledge, and add adequate cultural knowledge. ② To stimulate students’ interest to learn cross-cultural knowledge ③ To teach students cross-cultural knowledge according to the different topic’s feature.
