| As an international language, the importance of English is beyond words. With the rapid development of Politics, Economics and Culture in society, the request about English learners is higher and higher. Therefore, our nation has done some changes, among which, the education of English in primary stage is inevitably crucial for students’ development. So, a variety of textbooks flourished into our material market, which corresponds more to the English Curriculum Standard for Common Junior High School and which fits more for the Cognitive Development of students are to be considered.The evaluation of this thesis is based on the English Curriculum Standard for Common Junior High School, which is published by the ministry of education in 2011(hereinafter referred to as English Curriculum Standard 2011), and this essay adopts the system evaluation approach about English materials which is advocated by Professor Cheng Xiao tang, taking the Ren Jiao and Ren’ai Junior English Teaching Materials--Year 7 as an example, analyzing it deeply both the internal part and external part. Firstly, taking the English Curriculum Standard 2011 as the standard, the internal evaluation and comparison are from language knowledge, language skills and culture. Secondly, the external evaluation, which aims to investigate the satisfaction of teachers and students, adopts Likert scale questionnaire and analysis about relevant data is made by Excel and SPSS soft wares. Finally, the combination of the internal part and external part will lead to the answers of which edition conforms more to the English Curriculum Standard 2011 and which is suitable for students, on the other hand, teachers and material designers will be provided with the some practical advice.According to the research, two editions suit the English Curriculum Standard 2011 to some extent, in pronouncing, listening and speaking part, Ren’ai Junior English Teaching Material is better than Ren Jiao Junior English Teaching Material; while in word, grammar, reading and writing parts, Ren Jiao Junior English Teaching Material is more suitable than Ren’ai Junior English Teaching Material. This essay aims to offer some advice and ideas to teachers and material designers to comply with English learning for Junior High School students and to promote the development of English education. |
