Research On Shan Shili’s Thought

At the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, to save the nation from subjugation and ensure its survival becomes the theme with the deepening of China’s national crisis. Many a person with breadth of vision go abroad to explore the road of saving the country and people from western countries. Shan Shili is the first intellectual women who goes out of the country and leaves works. Shan Shili’s thoughts are abundant and unique, whose thought not only embodies her observation and thinking to the world and national conditions, but also can reflect the condition of women’s awakening of social consciousness at that time.Shan Shili’s thought is mainly embodied in three aspects including her thought of western culture, nationalism and female national view. In the Western cultural thought, Shan Shili not only broadens our horizons, but also shows her deep insight in academic research and tolerance on the western culture and positive acceptable mentality through the introduction and review of western religion, literature and art, badge system and so on. In the sense of nationalism, Shan Shili rethinks Chinese status and points out its disadvantages through criticism and reveal to tsarist Russia, affirmation and learning to Japan and suffering description to the Jew so as to make people vigilant and express her patriotism. In the women’s national view, through the positioning of women as an understanding wife and loving mother type woman national status, Shan Shili advocates women’s independent personality and the development of women’s education, and she elaborates her women’s view that though she has already broken through the traditional, but she has not completely liberalized.The thought of Shan Shili also reflects in the late Qing Dynasty, women in China have appeared the initial awakening of social consciousness. They began to have a strong sense of social responsibility and pay more attention to themselves. Although their arousal level is still relatively low and not perfect enough, it is what they do to cope with Chinese social upheaval in modern society.
