| English writing is playing an important role in international communication. What’s more, the newly issued vocational school English Curriculum Criterion requires the students to reach higher level. But the current is that there still exist a lot of problems in English writing of vocational school. Up to now product approach dominates the English writing class,so writing teaching is still not good enough. It is a very challenging task to find an effective way to help students improve their writing proficiency.According to Badger and White, process-genre approach integrates the merits of process approach and genre approach. In order to explore a new way of improving the students’ English writing proficiency, it is necessary for vocational school English teachers to do research on the application of process-genre approach and do the further analysis.This research tries to study three questions. The first question: Can process-genre approach alleviate students’ writing anxiety? The second question: Does process-genre approach contribute to the improvement of students’ English writing proficiency? The third question: In terms of grammar, organization and vocabulary, which is improved best by the application of process-genre approach?In order to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of process-genre approach in English writing, the research is designed and carried out at two parallel classes of grade one in xxx Vocational school. Class 3 is randomly chosen as the Experimental Class applying to process-genre approach and class 4 is chosen as the Control Class applying to product approach. After the experiment, the questionnaire and the interview are conducted. In the first and last week of the experiment, the pre-test and post-test about English writing proficiency test are respectively carried out in the two classes. And then all the experiment data is analyzed by the software SPSS 11.5.After 16 weeks’ experiment, the results of questionnaire and interview show that process-genre approach can alleviate the anxiety of students in writing class, In addition, the data of writing tests in Experimental Class and Control Class between the pre-test and the post-test show that process-genre approach is an effective teaching method to English writing. In terms of grammar, organization and vocabulary, the writing proficiency of organization is improved best by the application of process-genre approach.The above findings indicate that process-genre approach can promote students’ writing proficiency and alleviate students’ writing anxiety. Therefore, it is feasible to be implemented in vocational school English writing teaching. Although there are some limitations of the research, the results of the present research can provide certain reference for further study. |
