The Study On The Vicissitudes Of The Urban System In Jixian Area

Jixian is located in the northern of Henan Province. It has more than two thousand years history, and as the center in this area. According to the theory of Urban historical geography and Urban geography, a certain number of cities in an area will form the urban system, in which ruler by some level and relationship. In the Period of traditional Chinese society, urban system is local administrative divisions. The related research shows that the urban system in the Period of traditional Chinese society was based on the historical development and economic conditions. From the established of Ming Dynasty to the end of Qing Dynasty, Jixian is the capital city of Weihui Prefecture where in the northern of Henan Province. During the more than more than 500 years, there are 6 to 11 cities under the Weihui Prefecture jurisdiction, and the area almost doubled. It is an important prefecture in North China.This paper uses the research method of Urban historical geography and Urban geography. The urban system in Jixian area is the research object. Also discuss the formation and development of the central city. And the geography environment influence to the cities distribution and development. The emphasis of this paper is the relationship changes between the central city and urban system. From a longer time to research, make a quantitative analysis of the economical relationship between the cities, Jixian as the central city in this area that because many different conditions in the Period of traditional Chinese society. There are large regions and many cities under the Jixian jurisdiction. But the limited economic development level of this city itself. It causes the off centre in the urban system. That’s the reason why this urban system became decline quickly in future. With the changes of situation in Modern China, and the revolution in the mode of transportation, especially is the railway construction. The urban system in Jixian area was disintegrating in the first half of the twentieth century. The new urban system in this area was appeared.Nowadays, is the time of contribute the Central Plains cities group and new pattern urbanization. The research on the developing history of these cities is contribution to the scientific urban planning, and the allocate resources properly. Improve the quality of the cities. This research is provides a reference to the Urban historical geography, and increase the research content of small and medium-sized cities. Promote the research on the urban history in north Henan Province and the historical geography in Central Plains by combine different subjects.
