Research On The Value Orientation Of General Education In China At The Present Stage

As a kind of educational model, General Education,which takes for theback to basics and developing a "whole person" as the goal, lay stress on valueorientation of advocating "holistic education","Rational" education concept, theestablishment of the community and heritage and integration of humancivilization. It certificates that General Education is not the same as Culturequality education, which is entertainment-oriented, and also difference fromProfessional Education. General Education’s philosophy is to pursueknowledge inquiry, capacity building and personality development.Generaleducation was introduced from Western to China in recent years. As animportant component of Chinese higher education, general education not onlyhas the value orientation of its own, but also should combine its valueorientation with Chinese characteristics. The value orientation of generaleducation should consistent with the mainstream ideology in China andimplement Marx’s Comprehensive and Free Development. The SeventeenthParty Congress emphasis that We will incorporate the socialist core values intoall stages of national education and the entire process of cultural and ethicalprogress.General education is one part of national education, so it is necessary to put the socialist core values into its own and play a better role to cultivateall-round people for our socialism.This thesis studies the value orientation of our general education, andanalyses the current situation of five universities with different levels inShangHai. On the one hand, they consensus on the idea of promoting the overalldevelopment of students and their humanities and social science courses areobvious value-oriented. On the other hand, however, the paper discoversproblems in the respect of top-level design, rational thinking, scientific spirit andteaching methods. On this basis, the thesis puts forward the suggestions toemphasize the value orientation of general education by promoting the spread ofvalue orientation and building a full-service platform for general education,which will provide a reference to enrich the research perspective, enhance thequality of general education and put the socialist core values into it perfectly.
