Education is to last the generations. The college and university faculty are playing aleading role in transferring culture and bringing up talents. However, during the socialtransformation period, the pressures and temptation from everywhere have leaded thefaculty to a different way. People begin to realize that the faculty feels no longer like thefaculty before. In this research, we believe that the reason that has hidden under theappearance maybe is the role weakness or deviation of the faculty in the colleges anduniversities. For this reason, this research supposes to use the social role theory, choose theangle of role consciousness, use literature research, questionnaire survey and interview,arrange and analyze the present situation of the role consciousness of the faculty in thecolleges and universities, look for the influencing factors, then try to give some advises forthe enhancing of the role consciousness of the faculty in the colleges and universities.This research discusses the role consciousness in three parts: the understanding of therole position, the awareness of the role standard and the awareness and emotionalexperience of the role playing. We found that part of the faculty in the colleges anduniversities cannot give an explicit assessment to their performance in teaching andresearching. Moreover, most of them do not be satisfied with their job, feel little happinessand huge pressures. Especially the part of faculty whose age is between40to45. This grouphas the most negative attitude, and has the highest proportion to intent to change theirjobs.In the next step, this research tries to look for the influence factors and find out thatthere are at least four factors which will work: the expectations and assessment from thesurroundings, the influences from students and colleagues, and the features and emotionalexperiences of the teachers themselves. During the forming of someone’s role consciousness,he will experience the shaping and constructing, fulfilling and adjusting, developing anddeepening of the role consciousness, and those factors mentioned before will work duringthe whole forming process. According to the influences we can give some advices. Enhancing the pre-post trainingand teaching training, emphasizing the diversification of the faculty assessment system,introducing the ideas of the teacher supervision to improve the independence developmentability, and encouraging the faculty to train personal mental adjustment will help.Through the analyzing and researching, we hope to help the faculty in colleges anduniversities to understand the social expectations for the role they are playing as well as therole expectations of their hearts, to be steadfast in their developing direction and purpose.
