Due to the university expansion plan and change of tuition fees, the number of impoverished university students is increasing dramatically. A special group as they are in Chinese university, they have more pressure on financial, study, social, employment matters comparing with ordinary university students. The pressure may lead to psychological imbalance, which may result in psychopath and even may result in criminal behavior. It may have a direct impact on stability of university and on the qualified personnel. Therefore, university normally provides financial assistant for these students, in a mean time more attention need to be paid on their mental health. Now most of Chinese universities provide some supports for impoverished university students on how to maintain in a mental health condition. These supports are successful in some way. However, current university supports cannot meet the needs of impoverished university students’psychological development. This requires a new research on how to deal with mental health issues of impoverished university students.This paper analyzes the importance and necessity of mental health education; starting from the current situation of impoverished university students’mental problems, identifying the causes of those psychological problems. It suggests that many psychological problems come from many aspects that mainly come from the community, family, schools and other aspects of their own. The paper also puts forward the principle content, methods and approaches of impoverished university students’mental health education according to these reasons. In the educational process, universities should uphold the principle of student focus, the principle of distinction in principle, practicality and versatility and all-round development principles; in response to the contents, universities are supposed to launch education on cognitive ability, personality health, emotion, interpersonal harmony and integration of adaptation. The specific methods are to combine the ideological education and mental health education, to combine family education and school education, to combine with group counseling and self-education, by guiding concept of employment change, improving tertiary education campus network, increasing psychological capital, to maximize network performance and to actively carry out the poor quality of students’ psychological development training, creating a campus culture environment to improve the mental status of impoverished university students in order to achieve the main goal of university which is’to educate students by building their moral status’...
