China is an agricultural country with a population of nearly900million of peasants.Rural sports is part of mass sports. Developping and promoting rural sports activities hasbecome extremely important in today’s China under the situation that rural sports activitiesin China are daunting and peasants’ physical conditions are not optimistic.In a sense, there would be no all-people body-building movement without peasantsports. The all-people body-building movement plan (from2011to2015) issued by thestate council to develop rural sports activities by making full use the sports facilities andtalents of rural schools, enterprises and e institutions. However, contrasted with cities,peasants’ backward conceptions of body-building, lack of funds for sports and shortage offacilities have constituted major hindrances to the development of rural sports activities, asa result of which, the choice of appropriate sports is prerequisite for successfuldevelopment of rural sports activities. Soft vollyball, as a newcomer in vollyball family, iseasy to learn how to play, and thanks to the soft quality, low speed as well as no limitationof sex, age or technical skills, it is suitable to play on poorly appointed rural playingfields.Jiangsu province has taken the first place in speed of economic development acrossthe country, and it has also achieved rapid progress in sports. Since the1950’s, vollyballsports has been popular in Jiangsu province, which has contributed a lot to thedevelopment of vollyball sports of China, by training and supplying many excellentvollyball players to our country. The sound atmosphere and mass basis for vollyball sportsfavors the popularity of soft vollyball sports in the course of sports activities organized inthe rural areas of Jiangsu province.In this article,such methods as literature review, expert interview, experimentation,questionnaie survey and mathematical statistics have been employed for the research ofpopularization of soft vollyball sports in the course of “sports activities organized in therural areas” in Suzhou. We have gotten the following findings:First, the number of the rural employees who often participate in sports activities isnot large, though most of them think it necessary taking part in sports activities. They alsothink the main factor that they fail to participate in sports activities lies in the fact that theyfind no appropriate sports in rural areas.Second, A good atmosphere of soft vollyball sports exist both in urban and ruralschools.Third, popularity of soft vollyball sports in the course of Suzhou “sport activitiesorganized in rural areas is acceptable to the rural students because the skill is simple andeasy to learn.Fourth, thanks to such features as suitable load, strong security, high adaptability ofsoft vollyball sports, rural enterprise workers are ready to accept popularity of softvollyball sports in the course of Suzhou “sports activities organized in rural areas”.Fifth, popularity of soft vollyball sports in the course of Suzhou “sport activitiesorganized in rural areas proves to be feasible and practical in that soft vollyball sportsrequire little expenditure, simple filds and facilities and have diversified competitionforms.
