Abstract/Summary:
Reading plays a vital role in English teaching at senior high school, and what’s more, improving teaching quality is the lifeline. Reading acts as a means to understand and absorb the information in reading materials; at the same time, it is the basis of the four basic language skills. Therefore, improving students’ reading skills is the core of English teaching for students’ lifelong development. However, there is still a series of problems in present English teaching, such as paying more attention to the importance of knowledge, ignoring the ability of students; circling the top students in classroom teaching, failing to face the development of all students; using a single test as the only standard to evaluate students. These drawbacks can only lead to students losing interest in reading gradually so that improving students’ reading ability and skills will become a mirage. For these reasons, I try to use anchored teaching strategies in English teaching. The context of the strategy acts as the carrier, and series of problems act as the "anchor", whose goal is to develop students’ reading skills. This policy requires that teachers should design scenarios according to teaching materials and divide numbers of students into study groups reasonably. According to the "anchor of the problem", students will read the textbooks carefully and analyze teaching materials so as to complete relevant tasks under the guidance of teachers. Cooperative learning is the basic form of classroom activities, through which students can discuss solutions together, and teachers can act as the helper and guide in the whole process. In this paper, the author adopts some proper methods, such as, theoretical research, empirical analysis and literature research, different ways of classroom observation, interviews, questionnaires and experiments. The mode especially emphasizes the following links:the specific implementation of teaching strategies, the combination of teaching strategies and anchored reading strategies, and other aspects of the use of feedback in practical and systematic way.During the two-month experiment, the author adopts anchored reading strategies to teach English reading in the experimental class and the traditional method in the compared class. The results show that anchored reading strategies are more popular with the teachers and the students and that they are more helpful to cultivate the students’integrated language ability compared with the traditional teaching method. The data show that the students’ scores improve obviously, which proves that the mode is effective and practical.
