Based on the classification of images and their educational functions,this paper mainly expounds the importance of images from educational psychology,constructivism and cognitive structure. Trying to find the meeting points betweenphysical images and physics education, so that we can get a better use of physicalimages in high school physics teaching.Firstly, the definition of physical image was given and its characteristics wasanalysed. Secondly, I analysed the application of physical images in high schoolphysics textbooks and entrance examinations. Thirdly, the physical picture in ourcurrent high school physics textbooks were classfied and the physical images thatappeared in entrance exams of Sichuan Province in the past five years were statisticed.Finally, an investgation was carried out, do the students have the consciousness ofusing images, do they get used to drawing physical images, how frequently do they usephysical images, and whether they have the capacity of applying them. All describedabove makes us get a better understanding of the necessity of using physical images inhigh school physics education.Combining with the educational functions of images as well as my own teachingexperience, I did a specific research in illustrations, maps, images and diagrams whichwidely used in high school physics education, deeply analysed the functions ofdifferent kinds of images in physics teaching, and finaly a specific example is given.In the last part of this paper, two practical teaching cases were listed, one of themis "electromotive force and internal resistance of source" and another is "closed circuitOhm’s law", these two teaching case shows that, the effective useing of physics imagesin teaching can obtain a better result, which helps to mobilize the students’ enthusiasm,improves their hands-on ability and abstract thinking ability. The using of physicalimages in teaching is a long-term process, to achieve better teaching effect, thecousciousness should be run through the entire teaching process.
