With the continuous progress and development of society, China’s military modernizationand ordinary institutions of higher education reform has entered a period of rapid change. Inorder to make the modernization of our armed forces in ahead of the world, the CentralMilitary Commission decided to take advantage of ordinary institutions of higher educationresources to develop new type of high-quality defense personnel in1997. This is a newtraining model of the army and ordinary institutions of higher education’s general appearanceunder the new era of change. Through17years of development, ordinary institutions ofhigher education has trained many high quality personnel military cadres and achievedexcellent results, but the whole training process system is not fully mature, which needs along time to explore and be perfect. From the ordinary institutions of higher education’straining syllabus of national defense students, we can see that the physical education ofnational defense students is also an important part of the whole education system. Because inthe process of physical education, students need to bear certain physiological load, so as toimprove physical function. Through physical education, students’ special technical level andcapability of organizing amateur activities can also be trained. And more importantly,students’ courage to face difficulty and indomitable willpower can be exercised through thephysical education. This is very important to become a good national defense student andqualified military cadres in the future.This paper mainly focus on the physical education conditions of national defensestudents in Wuhan, combining the research method of literature, expert interviews,questionnaire survey, statistics and logical analysis. The four aspects were primarily discussed:the educational system of national defense students’ physical education, commission collegesand awareness of national defense students’ sports skills training, the physical fitness andspecialized sports skill level of national defense students in school, physical teachers’ leveland ability of institutions. The results showed that:1. Currently, the institutions in charge of teaching sector only cultivate the nationaldefense students with undergraduate education based on university undergraduate programs,and physical education system for them fails to take effective measures for training theirmilitary physical fitness and sports skill. This training system is not conducive to thesuccessful teaching and training work of national defense students’ specialized athletic skills,.2. Physical education of institutions mainly focuses on the teaching and practice of basicskill and physical fitness, failing to meet their demands of sports skills. 3. In process of training the national defense students, school doesn’t coordinate wellwith institutions, which widens the gap of understanding of military physical training andsports skill training between school and institutions.4. Due to the difference of cognitive level in strengthening national defense sportsstudents’ physical education training system, sports skills training aiming at strengtheningfeature of the national defense a is still the gaps currently.
