Essay is a medium where human beings use it to record and express their emotions. Essay is also the comprehensive effect of language. The writing process is actually a very complex phycological process, hence the author’s knowledge and writing experience will directly influence the quality of the essay. An essay could reflect a student’s writing skill, at the same time, it also exposed their writing weaknesses. Students who come from different background will definitely make certain grammatical mistakes, it is actually related to environment and culture they are living. The study was conducted in a Malaysian secondary school and all of the junior high students were involved to be the main subject of this study. Through collecting their essays as study sample, and also using questionnaire to get to know more about their writing abilities, analyse the main causes of the problem, the author will also raise the corresponding strategies to solve the difficulties in writing and improve their writing. Therefore, to better understand their learning state, classroom observation and interviewing method were adopted in the study.
