"Plateau phenomenon" refers to the a period for some teachers, who are workingin primary or secondary school. They met a lot of challenges during their earlyprofessional life and have experienced significant professional skill improvement.They formed their own teaching style and are famous for their achievement. Afterthis bright moment, these excellent teachers may experience career stagnation becauseof little promotion chance, lack of professional challenge, working pressure or thecontract of reality and professional dream. This period is called ‘steady failure period’,which is accompanied with career boredom and negative feelings. However, thisperiod may also be important to improve themselves further if they can make use ofthis chance.This paper has four sections. The situation of these teachers in SichuangProvince is studied. Their pressure and career boredom, and the manifestation of“Plateau phenomenon” is explored. In order to find out the reasons for thisphenomenon, questionnaire is used to study these teachers’ attitude toward career andsociety, and the role of school and the society is also discussed.
