English Curriculum Standards of the2003version have put forward a brand-new teaching idea that equal attention should be paid on every student, teaching should take quality education as the main core; and respect should be endowed on every student, for everyone is born with his unique characteristics, it is teacher’s duty to accentuate and foster the uniqueness of students. Through holding as many as possible activities, teachers are able to attract students to participate in it so as to make teaching go forward smoothly. This Curriculum Standards specifically put emphasis on the aim that English course is for the development of the student. Therefore, teachers have to thoroughly renew the old teaching mode from teacher-oriented into student-oriented teaching mode. This paper will start from teaching by classified learning plan, and then represents the procedures as well as results of the experiment.Based on humanism, constructivism and ZPD, learning plan is researched in this thesis. The purpose of this research is to see whether learning plan is effective and practical in senior reading teaching. It strives for stimulating students’interestsin reading so as to facilitate them to finish reading task in class so that their ability of self-directed learning could be greatly improved.All in all, improving senior students’reading competence is the top priority.The experiment was carried out in two parallel classes of senior one in Tianjin No.4Senior High School, in which students have similar learning experiences and English levels. The duration of the experiment was from September of2011to June of2012, which lasted for about two semesters. To make the experiment more objective and persuasive, the author used the method of questionnaire, interview, observation, test, data collection, analyzing, process evaluation and summative evaluation.After the experiment the author finds that the application of learning plan in class can help to make students the center of class, arouse students’ interest in learning English and improve their autonomous learning competence. By using learning plan, students have realized where their reading difficulties lie and learnt reading strategies to cope with them. All in all, the purpose of the experiment has been achieved after a year’s teaching practice. As a result, the result shows that students’ reading competence has been improved.
