Objective To investigate the healthy status, social support and coping style of the problem drinkers in community.Methods800male residents over18years old in urban were investigated by using Drinking Health Questionnaire, Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), Coping Style Questionnaire (CSQ), Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), Short Form-36Health Survey Questionnaire (SF-36). They were divided into problem drinking group, alcohol dependence group and normal drinking group according to the result of the investigation.Results764effective samples were obtained, which consisted of495cases in problem drinking group (64.79%),138cases in alcohol dependence group (18.06%) and131cases in normal drinking group (17.15%). All factor scores of SF-36in problem drinking group were significantly higher than those in alcohol dependence group and were significantly lower than those in normal drinking group (P<0.05). Total scores of SSRS and factor scores of objective support, subjective support, support availability in problem drinking group were significantly lower than those in normal drinking group and higher than those in alcohol dependence group (P<0.05). Factor scores of problem solving, seeking for help in CSQ in problem drinking group were significantly higher than those in alcohol dependence group (P<0.05). Factor scores of problem solving, seeking for help, rationalization in CSQ in problem drinking group were significantly lower than those in normal drinking group, and factor scores of self-blame, fantasy, retraction in problem drinking group were significantly higher than those in normal drinking group(P<0.05).Conclusion The percentage of problem drinkers within the jurisdiction of the community was64.79%of male residents over the age of18, while alcohol dependent patients accounted for18.06%of the residents. Problem drinkers excessively used negative coping style, such as self-accusation, fantasy, withdrawal, rationalization and so on, and alcohol dependent patients have cognitive concept and immature behavior in common. Problem drinkers and alcohol dependences are in poor health. The health status, quality of life and social support are bad in problem drinkers. They are high risk group of alcohol dependences.
