The classical Chinese vocabulary is an important point aswell as a difficult point in Chinese teaching. Due to rarelyused words and uncommon meanings in classical Chinese, highschool students have difficulties in understanding classicalChinese texts. Based on30classical Chinese texts in Chinesetextbooks for senior middle school, this paper divides rarelyused words and uncommon meanings into three different kinds,and lists some teaching cases. In our teaching process, makinga distinguish among different kinds of vocabulary and adoptingdifferent teaching methods can help students have a betterunderstanding of classical Chinese.This paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapteris literature review, which mainly summarizes the researchstatus and points out the research issues of this paper. Thesecond chapter makes the definition of rarely used words anduncommon meanings, and divides these words into three differentkinds. The third chapter analyses high school students’learning characteristics and the teaching current situation ofclassical Chinese vocabulary. The fourth chapter lists someteaching cases and provides different teaching methods, aimingat providing some effective ways in Chinese teaching.
