In the wave of the new curriculum reform, classroom teaching is moving from thetraditional classroom teaching to modern one. More and more modern educationaltechnology has been widely applied to the middle school English teaching. How tocorrectly and effectively use multimedia assisted technology becomes the theme oftoday’s middle school English education. On the basis of present junior middle schoolEnglish teaching in combination with the relative theory of multimedia assistedinstruction, the present thesis mainly illustrates the application of multimedia assistedinstruction in junior middle school English teaching.The present thesis explains some concepts of multimedia technology. It is based onthe two theories. One is the theory of “Experience tower” which was put forward bytechnology specialist, Edgar Dale. The other is the theory of Visual and auditory. Theexperiment lasted for four months. By using several methods, such as experimentalmethod, the survey interview, statistical method and comparative analysis method, thepresent author analyses the experimental data of the experimental class and control class.The results of the experiment show that academic achievement in the experimental classhas been greatly improved, compared with that in the control class, especially in thereading comprehension part. Form the results of questionnaires, it is clear thatmultimedia assisted instruction is quite popular among middle school students.According to the result of the experiment, the present thesis analyses the advantagesand limitations respectively of the multimedia assisted instruction, which will providehelp for the application of multimedia assisted instruction in junior middle schoolEnglish teaching. The famous British linguist, Ray Clifford points out that:“Technology can notreplace teachers, but the teacher who adopts technology in English teaching can replaceteachers who can not use the technology.” According to his idea, modern educationaltechnology applied to English teaching has become a new trend. Using multimediatechnology can make up the shortcoming of traditional English teaching that neglects thestudent position and stimulates the initiative and enthusiasm of students. Multimediatechnology is employed into junior middle school English teaching. It can create uniquesituations for students. Moreover, it can improve English level. Besides, it also cancontribute to change the traditional teaching philosophy of teachers.
