In the English classroom teaching, exemplification is one ofthe most important means of teaching especially for low gradestudents. The quality of exemplification has a certain influenceon the teaching quality. However, there is little research on theexemplification so this paper makes investigation and research onthe exemplification and put forward some related suggestions toEnglish teaching.This thesis chooses “exemplification in the middle schoolEnglish teaching” as the research subject. It goes around“what’s the situation of exemplification in middle school Englishteaching”,“whether the different characteristics of exampleshave different influence on English teaching” and “what shouldan English teacher pay attention to in exemplification?” thesethree questions in the whole research. According to the literaturereview, the domestic research of exemplification only stays at thetheoretical stage. It lacks efficient investigation and researchfor whether exemplification can really influence teaching and howis the degree of the influence. Therefore, in the case study of thepaper, there are designed research means of recording,questionnaires and tests, from which we can know the applicationof exemplification and the degree of its influence on teaching. The purpose of this thesis is to find out whether different kinds ofexamples really influence English teaching based on previousresearch results and careful analysis. In addition, this researchis designed to put forward meaningful and constructive resultswhich are beneficial for English classroom teaching.The first part of this thesis makes an introduction of thebackground, methods and significance of the research. The secondpart gives the definition, importance of exemplification anddescribes the present situation of it in English classroom teaching.And the third part introduces the cognitive theory, the exampleteaching model and Krashen’s Affective Filter Hypothesis which arereferred in this research. Then the forth part lists thecharacteristics of good examples. The fifth and sixth partintroduces the purpose, methods and results analysis of this study.And the last part of this thesis makes a conclusion of the wholeresearch and gives the significance of this research to the Englishteaching and offers future direction of successive study.Through the research, in the English classroom teaching,different kinds of examples can really influence teaching effectto some extent. Interesting and simple examples can make studentsmore likely to accept the new English knowledge, which is reflectedin both questionnaires and test papers of the thesis.
