With the current reform of the basic education curriculum, the traditional teachingmode is faced with an increasing number of challenges, which leads to the appearance ofnew teaching modes. Teaching modes that put students as the center of classroom becomea mainstream over the teaching reform, such as the "learning-plan teaching". It is a kindof teaching mode where teachers first design a learning plan and then students learn bythemselves under the guidance of teachers and the designed plan, which aims to stimulatestudents’ autonomous learning and independent thinking. When conducting the new mode, both teachers and students are involved, and they cooperate with each other to completethe tasks assigned in a class. The Senior High School the author has been working for has carried out the"learning-plan" teaching experiment since2011. It is designed to transform the presentteaching mode in order to build a class with high efficiency and to improve students’autonomous learning. This thesis is intended to be a study based on constructivism, humanism, cognitivism and zone of proximal development. The author combines thoseteaching theories with teaching experience to test the effects of learning plan teaching. The participants of the research are the writer’s students with the similar English levelfrom Grade one in a Senior High School in Ganzhou city. In the experimental class,learning-plan teaching mode was applied while the contrast class receives the traditionalteaching mode. At the end of the semester, scores of the two classes will be compared anddata collected from examinations and questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS17.0. Theresults indicate that the new teaching mode is indeed more effective. The study mayenrich the data of empirical studies and also provide other schools with some experiencefor reference. But on the other hand, some drawbacks and problems can not be neglected. They need to be solved to perfect this new teaching mode.
