For-profit colleges and universities have come to the force of the field of highereducation in the United States since the1990s.With its high-speed growth,the distinctivemode of operation and management mode,they have attracted the attention of the governmentand the business community,and gradually made some space in the higher education marketplace. In the meantime,however,they also exposed some worrying problems and have beenfaced with controversy,concerns,questioning and criticize.In our country,"Education Law" on the schools and other educational institutions,expressly provides that "non-profit purposes," However,due to the lack of clarity of theregulations,policies,there are some "profit-making activities". The United States has thelargest and the most characteristic for-profit higher education. The purpose of this paper is toanalyze the quality assurance system of for-profit colleges and universities in the UnitedStates and then draw on both its success and the problems.On that base,combining with thereality of our country,I’ll come up with some recommendations on the development andimprovement of the qualityAssurance System of our country’s Private Higher Education.The paper firstly reviews the historical development of the quality assurance system ofthe U.S. for-profit colleges and universities. Then,from the respects of the constitutionsubjects,the operation,the characteristics,and the shortcomings,explore the external andinternal quality assurance system of the for-profit colleges and universities,from which wecan find part of the reasons why they have shown outstanding performance as well as someproblems in recent years. The last part first learns the lessons from the quality assurancesystem of for-profit colleges and universities in the U.S.,then compare the current PrivateColleges in China related to the status quo and come up with some recommendations on thedevelopment of China’s private colleges’ quality assurance system with the hope of promotethe private universities in our country.
