Research On The Occupational Values Of Daqing Oil Workers

Daqing oil workers are representatives of the working class, and their “symbol aura” encourages not only oil workeres but also the entire working class to work hard and dedicate selflessly. However, the evolution of social culture has caused the political, economical and social status of the working class to changed significantly, and even led to the dislocation of their status. Therefeore, as for the Daqing oil workers who have gone through three generations, their evaluation of occupational significance has both important significance of reality and essential value of the time. This paper studies the occupational values of Daqing oil workers, which not only fulfills the research content of oil workers, but also enriches the research field of occupational values.This paper combines quantitative and qualitative methods together, conducting a study on the occupational values of Daqing oil workers. A scale of occupational values is designed according to the characteristics of Daqing oil workers. The research is carried out in two ways, namely web survey and field survey. The sampling methods of objects are snowball sampling and judgment sampling. 420 valid questionnaires are retrieved.The occupational values of Daqing oil workers are divided into three dimensions, respectively occupational social values, occupational enterprise values, and occupational individual values. It is found in the analysis of occupational values that when evaluating occupational social values, Daqing oil workers believe that their occupations prompt the development of social economy, and the exemplary vanguard role of the working class is realized. They highly agree that the “iron man spirit” gives off positive energy to the society. When evaluating the occupational enterprise values, Daqing oil workers believe that the characteristics of their positions fulfills the connotation of the corporate culture, upraises the enterprise performance, and creates values for the enterprise. They highly agree that their occupations improve the stability and development of the enterprise. When evaluating the occupational individual values, Daqing oil workers hold high expectancy towards occupations, and they also have strong occupational pride. However, the promises and satisfaction of occupations are not very optimistic, and the occupational stability keeps a steady state.It can be derived from the analysis of difference of occupational values that Daqing oil workers of different age groups show remarkable positive correlation in terms of occupational social values and occupational enterprise values; Daqing oil workers of different length of employment also show remarkable positive correlation in terms of occupational enterprise values. In addition, it is found in the analysis of occupational individual dimension that there is a remarkable negative correlation between the age and job expectation of workers, and a significant positive correlation exists between the age and job identity, job satisfaction, job stability, etc. Degree of education causes significant difference in job satisfaction, with Daqing oil workers of junior college(higher vocational) degree showing the highest, and workers of bachelor degree showing the lowest degree of job satisfaction. A significant negative correlation exists between the length of employment and job expectation, while a remarkable positive correlation exists between the length of employment and job identity, job satisfaction, job stability, etc.Based on the results of the above analysis, it can be concluded that the oil workers in Daqing highly recognize the significance and value of their occupations to the society and enterprise, which is a powerful feedback to the reconstruction of the good image of China’s oil industry. At the same time, the improvement of career commitment, job satisfaction, job stability on occupational individual dimension plays an important role ensuring the reform of the state-owned system and the revitalization of the old industrial base of Daqing.
