Throughout the process of the rapid development of urbanization and motorization in China, traffic problems increasingly become the bottleneck of urban development especially in big cities. On one hand, urban regional groups to accelerate the development of traffic travel demand surge; on the other hand, comprehensively promote the urbanization brings the population gathers to the central city, so the traffic pressure is becoming more and more serious. In the 1980s-1990 s, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other cities which traffic congestion first appeared mainly through increased investment in road infrastructure to meet the rapidly expanding demand of motorized travel, but the road construction is far behind the growth rate of the motor.Since 2000, the Guangzhou city grab the opportunity to host the 16 th Asian games to bring a series of transportation comprehensive improvement measures into force, which get good governance effect and effectively guarantee the transportation during the Games. But with the development of economy in recent years, the traffic still facing big challenges and traffic congestion is increasing, mainly shows in aspects of conditioned by the rapid growth of motor vehicles, the uncoordinated between the traditional urban planning and transportation planning, the slow pace of transportation construction, the less attention to traffic management policy, etc. Therefore, under the background of new urbanization, Guangzhou need to solve the current problem of urban traffic congestion, and plan the future traffic development comply with development of the times at the same time.Based on current situation of the development of Guangzhou urban and traffic development under the new urbanization trend, the paper describes the predicament of traffic development. It present situation of Guangzhou traffic congestion problems from different angles such as development concept, planning and construction, management system. It also compares the traffic congestion management advanced experience of the developed cities at home and abroad. Based the development stage, Guangzhou should choose the adaptive comprehensive management mode and management way.
