China has been a multi-ethnic country since ancient times, but it has developed into a diversified unity through continuous integrations. More than 30 ethnic minorities in China neighbor same counterparts of foreign counties. Borderlands of are adjacent to numerous countries and hold many ethnic minorities. Therefore, China’s political stability and economic boom directly depend on that of borderlands of ethnic minorities. With constant changes of international political environment, China has witnessed rapid development of politics and economy as well as emergence of ethnic conflicts. If borderlands of ethnic minorities could achieve political stability, China will further enhance its cohesiveness and solidarity and promote the political development. In contrary, intensified conflicts can give rise to political conflicts. Hence, it is very important to sustain political stability in regions of ethnic monitories and promote political development in borderlands of ethnic minorities.This paper is divided into five parts. The first part defines the theoretical concepts of ethnic minority area in the borderland of China, its political development and political stability. It also analyzes the characteristics of the ethnic minority area in the borderland and the importance of political stability to the political development of such areas. The second part analyzes the current situation of the political stability in the political development of Chinese borderland’s ethnic minority area, which mainly targets at the development status quo of the political systems and ethnic relations. The third part mainly analyzes the factors that influence the political stability of political development in borderland’s ethnic minority area. The fourth part mainly summarizes the historical practice and experience of the central government in terms of safeguarding the political stability in borderland’s ethnic minority area. It also concludes the historical lessons of the Soviet Union when it safeguarded its political stability. The fifth part mainly proposes countermeasures and suggestions for promoting the political stability in the political development of ethnic minority area in the borderland.
