With the implementation of U. S. "return to Asia" strategy, Asian-Pacific region has become the center of the superpower contest. Since the Park Geun-hye administration came to power, the South Korea continues to adopt hedging strategy to cope with the competition between China and the United States in northeast Asia. While maintaining allied with the U.S., South Korea develops strategic partnership with China to expand its influence and status in Asian-Pacific region. South Korea’s hedging strategy towards China and the United States is based on its geopolitics, the different strategic needs from China and the United States, the individual inclination of South Korean leaders and other factors. Basically, South Korea’s security and development cannot be secured without China and the United States, and its hedging strategy is essentially a "dual bandwagoning" strategy. Faced with the competition between China and the United States in northeast Asia, South Korea is also seeking a balance between its bilateral relations with China and that with the United States. South Korea proposed to be a strategic balancer between China and the United States in northeast Asia region, which is a higher level of its foreign strategic goal derived from the hedging strategy towards China and the United States. China understands South Korea’s hedging strategy, and this strategy also provides an opportunity for the development of Sino-ROK relations, promoting the rapid development of Sino-ROK strategic partnership.
