Research On The Villages’ Political Efficacy And Political Paticipation Behaviors

The 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China opened a new chapter in China’s socialist democracy development history. The congress put forward several crucial missions to improve villagers’ autonomy in order to promote grass-roots democracy, as well as to guarantee villagers’ democratic rights. However, the reality faced with us are heavy, because so many phenomena of villagers’ autonomy are contrary to the intentions of system designers. This thesis takes villagers’ political efficacy and its influence on villagers’ political participation behaviors as a key factor in grass-roots democracy, striving to find methods to adjust villagers’political efficacy,to promote villagers’participation behaviors, and to make the rural governance and political democracy full of vitality.This thesis mainly adopts questionnaire method to analyze villagers’political efficacy and political participation behaviors. The questionnaire data have effectively proved that villagers’political efficacy have a major impact on villagers’political participation behaviors.In addition, adjusting villagers’political efficacy tends to be the most vital and effective method of promoting favorable political participation and democracy.There are four parts beside the Introduction Chapter:Chapter 2 prepares basic concepts and theories for the thesis, including the definitions of Political Efficacy and Political Participation Behaviors, the theories of Civic Culture, Democratic Participation and Modern Governance; Chapter 3 is devoted not only to empirical analysis of the current situation of South Jiangsu villagers’internal and external political efficacy at both levels of the villager’ committee and the grass-roots government, but also to South Jiangsu villagers’ political participation behaviors in specific aspects of scope, style, and intensity.The analysis of data statistics shows significant relationship between villagers’political efficacy and their political participation behavior intensity. Based on first-hand information obtained by the research questionnaire survey, Chapter 4 mainly discusses the influencing factors of villagers’political efficacy, including the demographics factors (gender, age, education background, income level, political status, religious believes) and objective social environment factors (economy, politics and culture). According to former analysis, Chapter 5 put forward countermeasures for villagers’ political efficacy adjustment,as well as for promotion of villagers’ democratic political participation. By developing villagers’personal quality and shaping the rural political environment, it is practicable to cultivate villagers’ better political efficacy and better political psychological basis for democratic participation, thus accelerating political civilization construction in the new socialist countryside. The last part gives conclusion summaries of the thesis,then prospects of related research in the near future are also discussed.
