China is a country of long history with many ethnic groups. National unity is an important guaranty for the development of the country, being the foundation and demand of the nation’s sustained unifying. As an important part of the ethnic relationships of China, national unify profoundly influences the whole society. From the point of administrative division, grass-root regions mainly include rural areas, town and districts, and the rural area is the important part of the grass. Basic level is the key of social construction, but also the key to social development,this paper mainly from the northern and southern border city- Korla City, the rural areas,to explore how to carry out the national unity education in the basic areas of Xinjiang.Under the situation that Xinjiang faces complex and severe challenges to development and stability, it’s strategically significant to put national unity education in to practice in the grass-root regions to maintain prosperity, and to promote long-term stability of Xinjiang.The paper has four sections.Section 1 is the introduction, which introduces the foundation and significance of the topic, relates present status and puts forward the ideas and methods of the research, focusing on the difficulties and innovation.Section2 is an overview of the theories, expounded the basic theories of national unity,including the theory of Marxism, Communist Party of China on national unity, and the connotation of national unity. Integrated with the characteristics of Xinjiang grassroots, the necessity and importance of grassroots national unity education are analyzed from the point of present social tasks of Xinjiang. Section 3 is the analysis on the current situation of the basic level national solidarity education in Korla, the author takes 4 townships of Korla as the research object to do the investigation and the questionnaire survey,from learning the basic information of four townships in Korla city, investigating how the rural education on national unity carried out, the existing problems are identified in the perspectives of the mass and the government.After that, the reasons are found out.The last Section discusses the suggestions for policies on strengthening of national unity in Xinjiang grassroots education. The discussion focuses on enrichment of educational content, expedition of educational forms, and the increase the impact of the executive functions of the government.Xinjiang grassroots national unity education is one of the key to handle ethnic relations in Xinjiang, the purpose is to increase exchanges and contacts between people of various nationalities, break down the barriers between nations, to build mutual trust on the basis of national equality, solidarity and friendly relations ofmutual help; and let people at the grassroots level understanding of China’s national policies and related laws, understanding to harm ethnic separatist ideas, learning to actively resist the thought of separation and separatist activities. Strengthen the education of national unity in Xinjiang base, can make the grass-roots people of all nationalities in ideology and increase of the Chinese nation and the motherland identity, feel the good atmosphere of national unity in the life and work, so as to provide a good social environment for Xinjiang’s long-term stability and prosperity and development.
