The retirement delay has been among most heated discussions recently in China especially after the release of pension merging reform from State Council. Although there are different points of view regarding this matter, retirement delay accords with general trend. However more specific outlines on the reform are under discussion.The current retirement scheme is formulated in 1950 s based on average life expectancy, social and economic development. With the continuous development of society and economy, many disadvantages have emerged ending up with waste of human resource and financial burden of pension payment. At the same time, it greatly compromises the rule of social justice and equality and contributes to various instabilities in society. Also with the impact of aging population, China as a developing nation had already entered the era of aging society and becomes a country with the largest senior population accounting one fifth in the world and one among few countries with aging population. All of above has posed another grave challenge to the current retirement program. To cope with the impact of aggravating aging population and 2008 financial crisis as well as 2009 sovereign debt crisis, reform measures have been intensified around the world like countries of US,UK and France. Retirement age as the most critical factor in retirement program is becoming a frontline of reform by every means.This thesis will be centered on retirement age and start by discussing the its background and significance. Then studies on the issue of retirement age home and abroad will be briefed leading to the content, approach and innovation of this study comparing cases of retirement delay and summarizing the evolution of current retirement program along with its disadvantages. After that, the feasibility and possible side effect of retirement delay will be discussed as a key aspect. At last, policy and facilitating measures recommendation of retirement delay will be explored to provide a sound advice for government.
