| In recent years, the social construction has gradually become the core of reformand opening up. The social construction which focuses on improving people’slivelihood has been put on the schedule in the report of the18thNational Congress ofthe CPC. Since ancient times, there has been an old saying of “family state†in China.Therefore, the family is the foundation of a country and without the harmony ofthousands of households, the construction of a harmonious society is impossible. In aword, the harmonious society is based on the harmony of every family.From Marxist view of marriage and family, the development of marital familyrelations is ultimately determined by the development of material production and thechange of social economic relations. At the same time, the change of urban maritalfamily life is also influenced by other factors, such as political system, managementsystem and social ideology.After the founding of new China, the country gradually establishes the socialistpublic ownership of the means of production, eliminates the class oppression andclass exploitation based on the private ownership and creates reliable conditions forthe love-based marriage. With the adjustment of ownership system and other socialsystem, the urban marital family life changes from politics-oriented tomaterial-oriented and the family relationship changes from reliable to loose. On thisbasis, this paper also explores the enlightening significance of Marxist view ofmarriage and family to the construction of the harmonious family.This paper selects Qingdao city, the frontier of China’s reform and opening-uppolicy, for a case study. The paper takes the six areas of Qingdao city as the researchproject and analysis the changes of marital family life of Qingdao city since1949.According to Qingdao census data, the household number of Qingdao arises from216800in1949to958700in2012, with342%increase. In the year2010, the averagehousehold of Qingdao was2.79people, less than the data of4.07people in the thirdnational census in1982. The family values and family forms of Qingdao residents aremore diverse. And the annual per capita disposable income and annual per capitalconsumption expenditure of the residents of Qingdao also have undergone a structural change.
