This text mainly studies is the Japanese foreign policy of the Mekong region in the new century. The post-war Japanese diplomatic overview of the Mekong region, political and security diplomatic, economic diplomatic and cultural diplomacy four aspects were mainly studied.The first part is the diplomatic overview of postwar Japan to the Mekong region. From the end of World War II to the Collapse of Soviet Union, Japan’s foreign policy of the Mekong region lies in the Southeast Asian diplomacy. It can clearly grasp a train of venation of postwar Japan’s Mekong river region diplomacy to study the foreign policy that post-war Japan to Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN). At the same time, because the postwar Japan’s foreign policy of the Mekong river region has strong times characteristics, so that it makes characteristic of three aspects: economic diplomacy throughout, under the influence of the United States, regard China as a potential opponent.The second part is the political and security diplomacy. This part starts from the important exchange visits and meetings as well as regional security cooperation between Japan and the Mekong region countries. It clearly takes on a developing venation of political and security cooperation between Japan and the Mekong region countries since the new century.The third part is the economic diplomacy. Entering the new century, especially after "The Japanese and the Mekong region partnership" was issued, the link in economic field between Japan and the Mekong region countries was more closely. Meanwhile Japan arrived at economic partnership agreements and investment agreements with various countries in succession. At the same time, as an important part of Japan’s economic diplomacy, Official Development Assistance(ODA) is extensively developed in the five countries of the Mekong region.The fourth part is the cultural diplomacy. The Japanese government has attached great importance to enhance its international appeal and charisma in the field of culture all the time.Japanese government mainly uses these ways like the overseas publicity and foreign cultural exchanges, personnel exchanges, anime diplomatic and foreign cultural funding in the implementation of the Mekong region culture diplomacy. Cultural diplomacy, it improved the Japan’s international image and swept away the psychological barriers and it also made the international community accepted Japan and enhanced its international influence.
