Based on that road traffic resources are part of the public goods, this article attempts to have a study of traffic congestion in Suzhou. At present, there is a gap between the supply and demand, traffic jams is an influencing coefficient and bottleneck on social economy development and people’s living standards Suzhou .Currently, Suzhou city traffic congestion can be characterized as "Sometimes jammed but can be controlled". In the context of imbalanced supply of and demand for traffic, the existing road system to Suzhou city sensitivity toward rising channel, and the reliability and tolerance is gradually declining, it is really urgent to solve the problem of traffic congestion in Suzhou.This paper points out the present status of Suzhou traffic congestion, characterized by "the ancient city of peripheral extended, peak to peak to extension, holidays, at ordinary times to extension for elevated highway extension" trend. To analyzes the reasons of traffic congestion in the Suzhou, including the layout of land use and function imbalance, defects, road resource utilization, planning and road network layout is unreasonable, vehicles, drivers growth too fast, effectiveness and utilization of public transport needs to be improved. In this paper, through the horizontal comparison, draw lessons from the experience and lesson in the foreign countries and cities, on the basis of comprehensive analysis and argument put forward some coping strategies and methods, including the attempt to establish the city congestion charge policy, advocating moderate with car consumption policy and improve the intelligent transportation construction relevant supporting policies in order to reduce traffic congestion in Suzhou downtown to play an active role.
