The statement that improving citizens’ morality is the basic task of moralconstruction and the requirement that learning from moral models and promoting theirmoving deeds should be normalized were written in the report in the18th NationalCongress of Communist Party of China. The Publicity Department of the CPC CentralCommittee and six other departments have organized4sessions of the Activity ofMoral Model Selection and Award from2007to2013. This Activity has great impactand plays an important part in educating citizens. To implement principles of the18thNational Congress of the CPC, the author, by way of the Activity of Moral ModelSelection and Award, tries to conduct a research on moral citizens’ education throughthe Activity of Moral Model Selection and Award. This research is of great theoreticaland practical significance to promote civil moral construction.The thesis consists of five parts. Part I is the meaning of the subject and a reviewof studies on the citizens’ moral education via the Activity of Moral Model Selectionand Award at home and abroad; Part II focuses on the Activity of Moral ModelSelection and Award beginning with how this activity affects citizens’ moraleducation, and points out that this activity plays a role as the carrier of citizens’ moraleducation. It can guide moral evaluation among citizens, advancing moral awarenessand promoting moral practice. This part also deals with the significance of thisactivity in citizens’ moral education; Part III elaborates the characteristics of theActivity of Moral Model Selection and Award in citizens’ moral education, and itsroles in improving social ethics, professional ethics, family virtues and personalcharacters; Part Ⅳ centers about the five elements of the Activity of Moral ModelSelection and Award in citizens’ moral education, namely, being ready to help, braveto fight against the evil, honest and keeping promises, dedicated to work and filial and loving to parents and relatives through a summary of those five virtues of moralmodels; Part V explores the ways of citizens’ moral education by way of the Activityof Moral Model Selection and Award.The innovative of this research includes two aspects. Firstly, it starts from a newperspective. The subject taking the Activity of Moral Model Selection and Award as acarrier discusses the relationship between the Activity of Moral Model Selection andAward and civic moral construction. Secondly, this is a new research field. This thesismakes a systematic study of the characteristics, functions and contents of citizens’moral education through the Activity of Moral Model Selection and Award.In conclusion, the Activity of Moral Model Selection and Award is an importantform of moral education and an effective approach to promote moral construction.This thesis enriches theoretical study of citizens’ moral construction and civic moraleducation in new situation, and offers a useful reference for exploring effective formsand methods of citizens’ moral education.
