Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua came into being with the disintegration ofSpanish empire in Central America. After independence, Honduras and Salvadorcomposed the federal republic of Central America with Costa Rica, Guatemala andNicaragua firstly. In1839, by the disintegration of the republic, Salvador andHonduras, as well as the republic of other countries, became a separate nation. Islandsdispute in1854and land dispute, boundary events in1861led to tensions, then armedconflict happened in1969. In1972, Salvador and Honduras reached an agreement onmost of the land boundaries which were undesignated, but left six segment boundariesto be defined. The reconciliation process in1978led to that the two parties signed andratified the "comprehensive peace treaty" in1980, then confirmed the agreed areaboundary. Judgment of the case on September13th, in1990, about ruling thatNicaragua were allowed to participate in litigation within the scope of Fonseca Baywaters legal system, was also a landmark decision. The focus of controversy in thiscase mainly has three aspects: land boundary dispute, Fonseca Bay legal status ofislands dispute and (inside and outside Fonseca Bay)legal status of ocean spacedispute. In this paper, we also start from focus of the three disputes of using therelevant international law to make a detailed elaboration and analysis on the partiesappeal and adjudication in the case. In addition, in this paper, the land, islands and seaborder disputes are analyzed. And the case was analyzed that the adjudicationsignificance of the international tribunal for the law of land, islands and sea b oundarydispute between Salvador and Honduras. In view of the enlightenment, this paperelaborates the related law in our country the South China Sea issue, which is helpfulto the treatment of the territorial disputes in the field of international law.
