Marital Maintenance System is an important content of the MarriageLaw for its role in protecting the interests of the couple. However, the currentlegislation of our country omits this principle. Consiquenctly, the parties’interests, particularly those of the disadvantageous party (usually the femaleparty), are note protected sufficiently upon divorce. Inevitably, legislativeimprovements are required. The author of this thesis, after examining rulesrelating to marital maintenance, tries to provide some legislative suggestionson the marital maintenance system in order to ensure the rights of thedivorced couple and promote social stability and development. This paperanalyzes the principles, nature and applicable conditions of the maritaldependency system. Through comparing relevant laws and practices of ourcountry with those of other juridictions, inspirations are drawn.
