Gramsci’s ideas about political party and cultural hegemony are important parts of hispolitical thoughts. They also make great contribution to the development of Marxisttheory. This article starts with the relationship between political party and culturalhegemony, and systematically investigates their significance and impact.Gramsci’s thoughts are proposed with the conjunction of both Italian’s international anddomestic context, which are also greatly influenced by Croce, Labriola, Machiavelli,Marx, Engels and Lenin. Gramsci gives a unique connotation of political parties, andclarifies the essential elements of political party. In his view, the political party has itsunique nature and functions. With the statement of the integrity of the country and thecollective will, Gramsci reveals the meaning and the nature of cultural hegemony, anddescribes the positional warfare and the organic intellectuals. Political party and culturalhegemony are closely related. Proletarian party must seize cultural hegemony. Culturalhegemony needs the party as a carrier. Intellectuals are an important link between thetwo. Gramsci’s ideas have its great value. There are also some insufficiencies.From a practical perspective, we still face many challenges on our cultural construction.In this regard, Gramsci’s ideas provide inspiration for us. Political party shouldstrengthen the construction of political ideology, purify party members. On the basis ofanalyzing the characteristics of the intellectuals, we should make fully use of them. It’simportant to unite the will of the masses and win the recognition of civil society.
