Ningbo,as the economically developed coastal open city, through rapid development in thepast30years of reform and opening up, has entered a new stage from the basic realization of acomprehensive well-off to basically realized modernization. Whether economic development orcultural construction, geographical indications reflects its value in it. From " made in Ningbo" to"Invented in Ningbo", upgrading of products, the transformation of independent innovation andscientific and technological innovation, it marks a further promotion of Ningbo geographicalindications products’ value, and play its due role to further enhance the economic comprehensivestrength.In this paper, by identifying the concept, nature, importance of geographical indications,analyzing the typical cases of domestic and international geographical indications products’protection, and the actuality in Ningbo, and Combined with the importance of the Ningbo city’construction and development, the development of rural economy and the local famous products’protection, I propose it’s necessary and practicable to drive the geographical indications products’protection in Ningbo. At the same time, I point out that we should effectively use the relevantinternational rules about the geographical indications’ protection in Ningbo to gain the internationalprotection. For some subsistent major issues of geographical indications products’ protection inNingbo, such as the conflict of management mechanism, the collision between trademark andgeographic indication, the lack of follow-up supervision, serious violations and the lack of publicawareness of protection. Especially the bitter case that "Ningbo tangyuan” hasn’t been protected ingeographical indications,and occupied by the brand outside Ningbo,so the author puts forwardsome reasonable countermeasures and suggestions for it, such as straightening out the managementmechanism, establishing the principle that trademark will not conflict with the previous interests ofgeographical indications, reinforcing the intendance and administration on geographicalindications’ products, giving full play to the role of public administration and public service ofgovernment, and improving the functions of industry associations. in order to effectively protectthe local brand-name products in Ningbo, to maintain the interests of consumers and producers.
