Vietnam‘s important geographic location and abundant natural resources make it strategically important. With the end of the Cold War, the United States has transformed its foreign policy toward Vietnam from military incursion and containment into engagement for its national interest. The Vietnam War is one of the major local wars in the cold war era of the 20 th century. Vietnamese soldiers and civilians fought for 20 years, David and Goliath, crushing the American massive force interference, to realize the unification of the country. The purpose of this study is the cultural policy of United States for South Vietnam,hoping to find out the characteristics and influence of the cultural policy of United States for South Vietnam. By setting up the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency(CIA), United Public Affairs Bureau JUSPAO, United States public affairs together(usis) institutions, the United States Agency for International Development(USAID) etc.,organizations and charitable organizations in southern Vietnam, the United States government carry out it‘s cultural policy, such as interferencing in religion and propagating against the Communist ideology, spreading the American culture and the way of life. The implementation of American cultural policy resulted in the emergence of prostitution, drug abusing, stoling and other social problems in the south of Vietnam. However, undeniably, some American ideology and education had a positive impact on the Vietnamese society and culture.
