The Research Of Formulation Phenomenon In The Writing Of The Scar Literature

As the beginning of Chinese New Period literature, the Scar Literature has an unneglectable value in the history of literature. It broke the stereotype of the Cultural Revolution Literature, expanding the writing subjects and styles, which brought fresh air to the literary world at that time. However, we have to notice the problems in the writing of Scar Literature when we confirm its value. Compared with the Cultural Revolution Literature which is extremely formulated, the Scar Literature becomes richer and more various, but reading closely, it is not difficult to find the formulation phenomenon in it. For instance, the similar characters and plots in most of the works.Formulation phenomenon is forbidden in art creation. After the New China was founded, there were many meetings to criticize this phenomenon in the literary world, but writers could hardly avoid it. It is like the shadow of Chinese literature creation, along with the development of Chinese literature. It has been noticed already, however not easy to remove. This problem is worth discussing.This dissertation trying to dialectically analyze the formulation phenomenon from formulation manifestations, reasons and effects through close reading based on the Scar Literature fictions.This dissertation is formed by three chapters.Chapter One describes the formulation manifestation of the Scar Literature. This chapter introduces the writing background and its popularity, and then analyzes its formulation manifestations from characters and plots. First part is the analysis of modeled creation of characters. There are mainly three types of people in the Scar Literature: the character of unconscious criminals which is represented by the Red Gurads; the character of spirit saver which is represented by veteran and the character of disaster maker which is represented by the accomplices of the “Gang of Four”. Second part states the modeled plots in those fictions, including “suffer-save” pattern, dualistic pattern and promising ending pattern.Chapter Two analyzes the reasons of formulation phenomenon in the writing of the Scar Literature. Firstly, it starts from the policies of art, discussing the impacts of the creation of the Scar Literature. Secondly, it discusses the intervention of literary magazine to the writing. And then it states the reasons of formulation creation from the writers’ creative mentality and limitation. The last aspect is the accepting influence, including awarding system and readers’ feedback.Chapter Three discusses the duality of formulation phenomenon. From the positive point, the creation of formulation phenomenon in the Scar Literature is helpful to cure the social trauma mentality and motivates people to build the new society. In the meantime, formulation phenomenon of the Scar Literature can reflects the features of the post-Cultural Revolution time; from the negative point, it prevent the diversity of literature and indulges the unhealthy cultural psychology.
