Preface and postscript, as one of the important literary forms, here with Wang Guowei, entered a relatively mature period, after flowing through stretches of history of one thousand years with the enrichments and perfections by many litterateurs and scholars.Wang Guowei’s prefaces and postscripts are different from the creations of the others, not only because of their unique characters and rich connotations, what’s more, for their embodiment of the kernel spirit which belongs to the cultural collision of that era.These prefaces and postscripts expanded the quantity of the preface and postscript literary form, and pulled its level to a new height, meanwhile, gives the preface and postscript- the traditional literary form with era characteristics and modern significance.This article intends to use Wang Guowei’s prefaces and postscripts as an independent research object, and to pay attention to dig from cultural angle, through exploration and efforts, try to clarify Wang Guowei’s preface and postscript category, and to proven its academic concept and the literary and stylistic features and the value of the era, and finally to make a breakthrough on this research.This article is mainly divided into three parts : introduction, main body and conclusion.The introduction part illustrates the origin and the unique function of the prefaces and postscripts, and also briefly introduces the relevant present research status, the basis and deep meaning of Wang Guowei’s prefaces and postscripts.The main body is divided into four chapters:The first chapter gives an overall sorting out to Wang Guowei’s prefaces and postscripts on the basis of the defined origin and definition to the preface and postscript in the previous chapter and clarifies them by the four aspects including his own prefaces and postscripts, the ones made for others, and the ones of his compiled works and the ones for his recorded ancient books.By making a comprehensive survey on Wang Guowei’s academic achievements in the second chapter, we can get a glimpse that these achievements are closely connected with his academic view, or in other words, achieved under the guidance of his academic ideas.While sorting and analysing Wang Guowei’s prefaces and postscripts, it is helpful to study and grasp the systematicness of his prefaces and postscripts by summarizing their academic ideas implied in philosophy, literature, editing, translation and other fields.The third chapter analyzes the peculiarity of the preface and postscript as a form of literature in Wang Guowei’s writing from the concept connotation to the external style characteristics.In general, the traditional Chinese criticism literary form has strong literary characteristics, while western criticism literary form focuses on the strict logical thinking characteristics. However, in Wang Guowei’s prefaces and postscripts, both are embodied to some extent and even can be combined perfectly.The fourth chapter summarized the research significance of Wang Guowei’s preface and postscript, namely its value, from the "no utilitarian aesthetic value", "world academic value and other aspects, to better grasp the deep connotation of Wang Guowei’s preface and postscript.The conclusion part summarizes the important role of Wang Guowei’s prefaces and postscripts in the research of Wang Guowei.Wang Guowei’s prefaces and postscripts are the important part of his creation, and take up an important component in his articles, a total of more than 200 pieces were mostly included in “Wang Guowei’s Collected Works”.As Wang Guowei’s other writings, prefaces and postscripts fit his creative idea and academic pursuit, together with his other works, as a direct or indirect reflection to his life, constructed Wang Guowei’s unique spiritual world and his aesthetic pursuit.Therefore, the research and discussion to his prefaces and postscripts, on the one hand, can understand him from the angle of the prefaces and postscripts in order to promote Wang Guowei’s relative research, on the other hand, also can carry forward the studies on the preface and postscript as a literary form itself.
