The May 4^th Female Writer’s Productions On The Family Ethics

The family is the basic unit of Chinese people’s life, therefore,the culture of the family ethics is the foundation of Chinese Culture.Since the modern times, those big families which keep old ideas of autocratic China were criticized. Especially during the May 4th New Culture Movement, the pioneers started a fierce attack to the traditional family ethics and discussions about the modern family ethics. The literature works at the time are mainly about family, marriage and love. The May 4th Female writer with firsthand experiences presented the family life at that time, rethinking the traditional family ethics. Their works express the contradictions in the turn of the modern family ethics.At present, the study of the May 4th female writer works is mainly about ideological contents, characters, the female gender consciousness and narration characteristics. Based on the products of the May 4th female writer in the period of the May 4th Movement, and referring to the study results of literature and sociology, the thesis fully and accurately seeks the May 4th female writer’s understandings to the family ethics and the difficult situation that is common to them, in order to reach an original conclusion and promote the study of the May 4th female writer and their writings about family affairs.The thesis is mainly divided into five parts. The introduction part briefly explains the family ethics, summarizes the current research of family affairs narration and female writer in the May 4th Movement. Under the background of the New Culture Movement, people criticized the traditional family ethics, and the May 4th female writer’s works also present about that, which is the first chapter expressing about. The second chapter analyses three kinds of family characters: the father, the mother and the daughter. The third chapter is about ethical conflict in the May 4th female writer’s works. They were so puzzled about family affection and virginity. In the last part, it is discussed that the May 4th female writer have tired to start the modern family ethics.
