The source English text of this translation practice report——Values of Music is an excerpted chapter from Handbook of the Economics of Art and Culture by David ? Soros,Professor of Economics at Macquarie University in Australia and Victor A. Ginsburgh at the University of Brussels in Belgium. This chapter mainly describes the values of music and their influences on people’s life from different aspects with precise and normative wording and phrasing, as well as perfect logicality.A CAT(Computer Aided Translation) tool is applied in the translation process, so as to increase the efficiency of translation and maintain the accordance of the terminology. To deal with the problems in the translated version, a carefully analysis is made and a series of revisions are conducted. These problems include illogical textural cohesion and wordy expression caused by the interference of CAT. From the discourse cohesion perspective, reference, ellipsis, substitution and conjunction are used as the means of modification. A analysis is combined with some representative examples as case study, which shows the importance of translation theory on translation practice. There won’t be high-quality translated version without the guidance of proper theory. It’s proved that no matter what kind of modern technological means is adopted to aid the translation, the subjective initiative of translator should be above all in any translation practice.I hope that the writer’s experience will be a mirror for those who are determined to engage in translation.
