The source text of this translation is selected from the book entitled The Good Dog, which is a children’s novel authored by Avi Wortis, an American children’s literature writer. Due to the differences between Chinese and English languages, the English novel differentiates from the Chinese novel in its way of writing, organization of language, development of paragraphs, and so forth. These respects are difficult to render with much effort and emphasis entailed in the process of translation. The translator found that the language of the source text is simple but connotative, and implications that the author intends to convey can be effortlessly grasped through context. The context provides the groundings that enable translation workers to deepen their understandings of the original in the process of translation. The recreation of the source language context is of much difficulty for this translation practice. This paper is intended to explore the relations between the context and translation, the creation of the context, and how to reproduce or compensate the context in the original, thereby improving the translation of Children’s novel.Translation is of communicative activity carried out on the linguistic basis. Translation, fundamentally speaking, is not merely concerned with the rendition of meanings, and will never come to its own if detached from context. That is to say, translation entails contextualization. In this regard, in process of my translation practice, translation is considered as the reconstruction of meanings in line with the context in the original. In midst of translating, translators are suggested to grasp the exact meanings of the original by making full use of context, and adopt various translation measures, thus better making the translation conform to the three principles of translation on the one hand, and fully representing the context of the original. This report presents the contextualized translation by virtue of exhaustive case analyses in the hope of providing references for the future translation practice. This report is subdivided into six sections. Section one is about the task description with the introduction of source text and its author, significance of material selecting, and the framework of the report included. Section two is about the Pre-translation, which includes the preparation in school, the studying of translation theory and establishment of translation project. Section three is the briefing of translation process including the comprehension of source text, the construction of target text and the checking in the translation process. Section four is about the analysis of important and difficulty issues in midst of translating, etc. Section five is concerned with the selection of translation strategy and theory as well as the case analyses and solutions to difficulty problems in process of translation under the guidance of context. In the last section, experience and references accumulated in the process of this translation practice are concluded.
