Cognition linguistics believes that metonymy is a new approach to studying language, and is a dynamic cognition approach to explaining how language shapes: it is believed that metonymy is a cognitive process in which one conceptual entity, the vehicle, provides mental access to another conceptual entity, the target, within the same idealized cognitive model(ICM).Translation is grounded as an interactive process with real human experience. Translators, viewed from the perspective of cognitive linguistics, aim to map the source meaning into the target language and to describe the reality and cognition world for the target readers. Explorations made by researchers show that metonymy translation aims at providing scientific mentally accessing process with natural realization of translation.Based on the study of translation of metonymies in Lei Yu from cognitive approach, five translation methods are put forward as follows: preserving the metonymic vehicle of the source language(SL) text, preserving the metonymic target of the SL text; preserving the metonymic vehicle of the SL with extra explanation, preserving the metonymic target with extra explanation, and omission of metonymic vehicle and metonymic target. Translators are expected to adopt appropriate methods to translate metonymies according to specific context and requirements.
