The comments on Outlaws of the Marsh in Ming dynasty occupies an important position in the Ming and Qing novel comments history, we can even say that the development history of the comments on Outlaws of The Marsh in Ming dynasty is an epitome of that in Ming and Qing. Every comments book of Outlaws of The Marsh, in form or in content, is important and valuable. Such as Yu Xiangdou’s comments book, it’s the first one which liberated comments from the phonetic interpretation, Rong Yutang’s firstly introduced artistic theory in novels and Jin Shengtan’s is the masterpiece in Ming and Qing novel comments history, which set an example, formally or contently, for the later generation’s novel comments.In the course of the study, this paper has not only meticulously studied every single version of the comments on Outlaws of The Marsh, but also did a comparative study with other versions. The study of it was both put in the comments history of Outlaws of The Marsh and the comments history of Ming and Qing novels. In the process of collecting data, I did my best to use the original photocopies, and if there were more than one copy, I used them all, supplemented with the revised version, in the absence of the copy books, the revised version will be used. The study of this paper not only used the methods of textual research and traditional literary analysis, but also based on the analysis of multiple data to have a empirical study of the external characteristics of the comments. Hoping that the development trace of Ming’s Outlaws of The Marsh can be found.The comments on Outlaws of The Marsh in Ming Dynasty was start from Yu Xiangdou ended with Jin Shengtan. Though every version has its own characteristics, the historical changes of Ming’s comments on Outlaws of The Marsh always followed an obvious trace, whether in its form or content. The trace followed this order, from popularization to refinement, scholarization then professionalization. In these 50 years, the comments of Outlaws of The Marsh experienced an magnificent metamorphosis which represented the whole development history of comments on Outlaws of The Marsh and even the whole Ming’s novel’s too.Innovation of this paper are: first of all, studied inheritance relationships between each comments version, not only intensively studied each version but also considered it’s historical position in Outlaws of The Marsh’s comments history. Secondly, traced the source of Qiong version’s comments. Thirdly, according to the detailed study came to the conclusion that Yuan version and Di version shared the same original manuscript, while Yu version and Yuan version belonged to the same system but from different original manuscripts, Yuan version has one more chapter review and the last 20 chapters was added by later generations.
