| Under the guidance of Skopostheorie in German functionalism, the report on Chinese-English translation of Mosuo People(Section Two,Chapter Four), an excerpt from Tourism and Culture of Lijiang, is written on the basis of the translation practice. The source text is a tourist material which falls into the category of applied writing. With informative function and vocative function, tourist materials are very important mediums to introduce and promote scenic spots as well as attract foreign tourists. Starting with source-text analysis, a proper and effective translation theory, the well-known Skopostheorie is adopted in the process of translation. Then the report elaborates the 3 prime rules of Skopostheorie, namely, the Skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule and the connections among them. Tourist material translation is an intercultural communication activity. Given the difference in value, religious belief, history, culture, thinking model and custom between the initiator and receiver, the author manages to truly present Mosuo culture by maintaining the original style and characteristics of the source text while strives for the realization of the communication goals to the maximum. The author moves on to illustrate the translation methods and strategies used to deal with the problems and difficulties in the process of translation by case study. The report is ended with a summary of the whole translation process, gains from the translation activity, weakness and unsolved problems.Through the translation practice, the author believes that Skopostheorie plays an very important guiding role in applied text translation, especially tourist material translation. It breaks away from the traditional translation methods that are based on linguistics and helps translators to conduct translation activity creatively. And the translation methods and strategies adopted on the basis of Skopostheorie are proved to be effective and feasible to realize the goals of applied writing. |
