A Study On Characters Of Radical “虫” In Shuo Wen Jie Zi

Shuo Wen Jie Zi wroten by Xu Shen,which is the first wordbook with a complete system in Chinese linguistics history and also considered as a laying foundation work of Chinese Philology. It is an excellent philology work and also has great significance in the history of linguistics. This paper is based on Da Xu edition of Shuo Wen Jie Zi,analyses and studies characters shape, phonology and meanings of radical“虫”,then discusses the methods and features of Shuo Wen Jie Zi.The paper is divided into five chapters: preface, radical “虫” and characters of radical “虫”, structure of characters of radical “虫”, meanings of characters of radical“虫” and conclusion.The first chapter expounds purpose and significance of research about radical“ 虫 ”, introduces the research status, points out the main research contents and research methods.The second chapter introduces radical “ 虫 ” on detail from style characters sequence of radical “虫” in Shuo Wen Jie Zi and the sequence of characters belong to radical “虫”. Through comparing the two editions, Shuo Wen Jie Zi and Shuo Wen Jie Zi Xi Zhuan, we can find only six different features. Statisitical analysis about number of characters of radical “ 虫 ”,includes Oracle Bone Inscriptions, inscriptions on bronze, Xiao Zhuan and modern Chinese.What,s more, this chapter shows the origin of characters of radical “虫” and exposes the reasons of changing.The third chapter focuses on the structure of 153 characters of radical “虫” to form the overall understanding of phonetic sign and ideogram according to classification and statistics, studies the hierarchy of ideogram in Shuo Wen Jie Zi,emphasis on the coverage rate of phonetic element and pictographic elements of 150 phonetic sign. This chapter lists the homophones and accounts for the existence reason, studies the exchange between different phonetic sign and ideogram.The fourth chapter researches the meaning of the words of the radical of“ 虫 ”,builds a complete meaning system of characters, compares two dictionaries,including Ci Yuan and the sixth edition of Modern Chinese Dictionary, studies the changes of meaning of radical “虫”,explores the reason of change about the meaning.The fifth chapter mainly summarizes the research contents and methods, shows important conclusion, innovation and deficiency of the study. The article also carries on the forecast the research prospect.
