From the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty to the 1870s, Japanese imperialism invaded into Korean peninsula. As a result of it, Korean people were forced to cross the Yalu River and seek for a safe and sound life in Chinese border areas. And then they gradually became members of Chinese ethnic minorities. Like many other minorities, Korean people are talented in art and they can sing and dance as well as painting. In the late 1950s and the early 1960s, the area was even highly praised as Chinese "hometown of oil painting". Because of their special ethnic culture, national consciousness and aesthetic characters, Chinese Korean have been enthusiastic about art and they have had an exquisite and graceful expression, an artistic expression in theme, material and color. This was not only the mental representation of Chinese Korean artists, but the character came down from their generations. In order to enrich Korean art history, it is necessary to do a research on Jin Wenwu, a Korean artist. From 1982 to 1999, Jin Wenwu served as a teacher at the Academy of Ait of Yanbian University. He made some great achievements in painting, and contributed a lot to the standard college education of art in Yanbian. His unique ethnic painting style is an authentic reflection of ethnic culture and aesthetic habits, which reveals korean typical customs. This paper has collected data from the interview of his families and colleagues and studies the current text information. Jin Wenwu has many representative works, such as "Noon", "Secretary in the Pasture", "Visit to Her Home", "The Girl Picking Apple Pears", "Spring", "Grandma", as well as his scenery representative works, like "Heavenly Lake", "Snow in Songjiang", "The Yunu Peak in Jingang Mountain". This paper analyzes his feature of painting, concludes and studies his painting aesthetic characters. In Jin Wenwu’s painting works, the compositon was basically oriented by close quarter perspectives with a harmonious and plump picture. In the aspect of color application, he expressed his emotion through soft color. While in the aspect of modeling, his work were full of ethnic art and he depicted figures and scenery through his special aesthetic preferences.
